Bio

After graduating from Bates College, in Lewiston, ME, with a degree in political science I unexpectedly  delved into the world of clay.

Over the past year, 2006, I established a studio at the base of the Leelanau Penninsula,  that could be described as a beautiful corridor to the Leelanau County.  The years leading to buiding the studio in Michigan were spent in a number of locations working and engaging with many other artists and collegues.  The majority of that time was spent in Snowmass Colorado at the Anderson Ranch, a world famous art center located near the base of Snowmass Mountain.  It is there in CO where I first began to feel the true connection of what it means to be an artist, and how to begin engaging life through artistic creation.

Before my relationship with the Anderson Ranch commenced I was formally beginning my exploration of the arts with brief engagements at Michigan State and Northwestern Michigan College.  As my dialogue with clay has unfolded I have traveled quite extensively and met a variety of people in the world of clay.  These travels including numerous trips to a remote studio in Good Hope Jamaica, where disccovery and intrigue have been fostered by working in an unfamiliar environment, wood firing in New Bedford Massachusetts with Chris Gustin, and daily trips to Leland where I maintain my gallery in the summer and fall.

Pot making and clay has provided me with a tremendous outlet to engage my spirit and discover the experience of life.  Before working with clay I had begun developing my artistic sense only through perception and awareness, clay has allowed my to engage these senses and bring them to life.
